1. Currently, the department does not have a course strictly focused on civic engagement.
2. Across the nation, a civic engagement course is part of nearly all academic concentrations related to parks, recreation, and leisure.
3. The department of Recreation and Park Adm., as well as the university as a whole, strives to graduate students that are well-rounded individuals and engaged citizens.
4. By engaging in civic learnings through this course, students will enhance skills and knowledge related to time management, overcoming difficult situations, human relations, oral and written communication, analytical problem solving, networking, and much more.
5. Regional engagement and community service are integral parts of EKU’s goals for the future and the department sees this course as a gateway to this goal.
6. Recreation and Park Administration faculty have designed this course so that it may be interdisciplinary in nature, allowing for students from varied majors to utilize the course for the reasons listed above
7. Initially, the department will be working with Student Life’s Alternative break Civic Engagement projects.
